John Marshall Cheary
CEO, Founder & Chairman
After earning a B.M. from Boston’s Berklee College of Music, and a successful stint as a digital audio editor, Cheary launched John Marshall Sound in 1995. In under a decade, he built a one-man operation into a leading independent audio production company. With the acquisition of Paul Ruben Productions in 2008, he began to focus on emerging areas of the education field. One of Cheary’s core goals is to up the fun factor in educational media productions. “One of the most important things in life is a great education, and one of the best ways to educate is to entertain,” he believes. “Kicking media up a notch is a way to make things engaging.”
VP of Studio & Post Services
Kevin Fecu, John Marshall Mediaʼs mastermind of post-production, joined the company in 2000. As the senior engineer, he oversees digital editing, scheduling and sound effects, creating everything from handclaps to full-blown Foleys. He also manages the painstaking quality-assurance protocols. He works directly with clients, ensuring that every recording is delivered on time and on target.
Before joining John Marshall Media, Fecu was an audio engineer, recording and mixing R&B, hip-hop and jazz. He earned his B.A. in music, with a specialty in audio engineering, from the City College of New York. Outside the JMM studio, he continues to mix and DJ, focusing on Caribbean music.
VP of Media Productions
Robin Lai is a Berklee College of Music graduate and moved to New York after spending time in Boston as both a musician and an engineer. He joined John Marshall Media in 2009 and has been here ever since. Robin heads the Education and Media department and works hard to make sure that all clients have the best possible experience for their projects.
Robin cut his teeth as a live sound engineer and has worked with many luminaries in the music world as well as having a stint as one of the sound engineers at the famed Iridium Jazz Club in NYC. Robin is an accomplished musician as well, having been a cast member of a Drama Desk nominated Off Broadway show and has toured the US with a number of artists. Aside from his work at JMM, Robin is active in the Broadway and video game scene as a recording and mixing engineer for various cast and game albums.
Eric Dabdoub was raised in Mexico and started recording punk and indie rock bands at the age of 15. He later moved to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music. After his graduation from Berklee he stayed in Boston for just over a year where he had the privilege to work in some of the highest profile sessions in town, including the Oscar nominated Norah Jones’s sessions for the movie TED.
He moved back to his beloved Mexico for 8 months in which time he founded a boutique Latin American record label with which he earned him his first Latin Grammy nomination. As an independent music producer and mix engineer Eric has earned various awards including 8 IMAS (Mexico’s premier independent music awards) and 1 PULSAR (Chile’s national music awards), plus one Latin Grammy nomination. Eric joined John Marshall Media 5 years ago and was able to apply his expertise, ear and management skills to great effect in educational and media projects. He continues to be active in the music scene with great success, but focuses his energy Monday through Friday at JMM, taking any and every project to the next level.
