Audiobook Production

How does it work?
We take care of everything.
  • Recording:We arrange a studio for you most anywhere you want to record in the USA. We make sure the studio is equipped with the facilities and knowledge to properly record an audiobook.
  • Post Production:We edit, master and QC a distribution ready master. The studio then delivers the recordings to us where we edit, qc and master the project into a master ready for distribution to all the major audiobook distribution outlets.
  • Distribution: We then send it to our distribution partners, Big Happy Family, who will distribute it into all the major audiobook distribution channels.
How long does it take?
Once recording starts it usually takes three weeks until delivery. This schedule varies and depends on the book length and other factors. When our production supervisor arranges the project for you they will confirm all these details with you.
What if you find mistakes?
Our QC (Quality Control) is the best in the business. If our QC engineers find mistakes in the recording that can’t be fixed with editing magic, like wrong words or noises, we’ll book you back in the studio for a Pickup Session to have you re-record the offending parts. This process isn’t uncommon and it usually takes less than ½ hr. Cost for this is additional at $150.
Can I review and comment it?
Yes. When we have finished with the project, but before the Pickup session, we will deliver an MP3 file to you so that you can comment and give comments. Any reasonable number of comments will be accepted free of charge.
Are there any extra costs?
The cost quoted will be the full and final cost of the production except for the following:
  • Longer Record Time: If it takes you longer than 3:1 (three times the length of the book) to record the book than you will be billed for the extra studio time at $150 per recording hour.
  • Meals: Meals and other additional items ordered during the recording sessions are not included. These things should be paid by you and not billed to the studio
  • Pickup Session: If there were mistakes in the recording session that require the studio to be booked for a re-record session you will be billed at $150/hr with a 1 hr minimum. Usually this takes less than one hour.
Is there a guarantee?
We guarantee that our work will be excellent quality and will be acceptable to any distribution outlet in the industry. If it fails any of their QC standards we’ll fix it free of charge.

FAQ Distribution

Distribution: How does it work?
We refer all of our audiobook productions for distribution through Big Happy Family. We pass your files and information to them and they take it from there. They offer distribution into all the major audiobook distribution channels including: Audible, Overdrive, Akoustic Audiobooks, Audiobooks.com, AudiobookStore.com, Catalist, Downpour, emusic, LearnOutLoud.com, and more.
What’s the revenue split?
50/50. Big Happy Family splits all of their revenue with you down the middle. And they don’t get paid until you do.
How much of the market is Audible?
Only 41% according to latest industry data. So if you’re only using audible’s ACX you’re missing 59% of the revenue. When John Marshall, CEO of John Marshall Media, spoke to Jessica Kay about this she corroborated this by saying "it’s feeling like we only get about half our author’s revenue from Audible. So if you’re just going through Audible, you’re missing out!!!"
Can I review and comment it?
Yes. When we have finished with the project, but before the Pickup session, we will deliver an MP3 file to you so that you can comment and give comments. Any reasonable number of comments will be accepted free of charge.
