FAQ

How can we produce such great audiobooks at such a low price?

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.

Are the Narratorsʼ home studios good quality?

Yes! JMM is extremely careful in selecting narrators based not only in acting quality, but also in the quality of their recording studio and recording techniques.

Can I release the book anywhere?

Yes. You own the rights to it everywhere, anywhere, and forever.

Do you use Union Talent?

Yes. We have chosen to be a SAG/AFTRA actorsʼ union signatory. This signatory agreement gives us preferred rates when working with the best talent in the world.

Does CTP offer talent at different SAG/AFTRA Rates?

At this time we are only able to offer talent at the SAG/AFTRA minimum rate. We hope to be able to offer talent at different rates in future iterations of the site.

Why does JMM use Union Talent?

Because they're the best. And they get a fair wage, one that was agreed upon by the members of the union. This makes the best audiobooks, and helps to support a valuable creative industry. Ultimately, you get what you pay for. Even though you can find cheaper ways to produce your audiobook, like ACX, those actors are generally not nearly as good, and they're not being paid a fair wage.

But don't union contracts stipulate residual payments for extended periods of time or different geographical areas?

Because they're the best. And they get a fair wage, one that was agreed upon by the members of the union. This makes the best audiobooks, and helps to support a valuable creative industry. Ultimately, you get what you pay for. Even though you can find cheaper ways to produce your audiobook, like ACX, those actors are generally not nearly as good, and they're not being paid a fair wage.

How Long will it take to receive the finished audiobook?
Production time is estimated at one month from the time you click “Produce”. But this is simply a guideline. It's mostly dependent on the narratorʼs availability. You'll discuss with the narrator when they can start recording and how long it will take to record.
After Recording, how long will it take to finish the audiobook?

About two weeks.

Can I listen to the narrator during the recording session?

Not to the whole thing. You have the opportunity to discuss the project with the actor, and you will have the opportunity to hear the narrator do an audition. Some narrators may like to have you listen to the first couple of pages of the recording to make sure that they're on the right track. But from there, the narrator will record on their own.

What if I don't like the way it sounds?

This is highly unlikely since you'll have had the opportunity to listen to auditions, discuss with the narrator prior to the recording, and maybe even to have listened to the first bit of the recording session. The actor and our audio professionals will have invested a significant amount of time and expertise in producing the book by the time you hear the finished master. If there are a few specific things that you would like to have re-recorded, we'd be happy to do so. But otherwise, we can't offer a refund unless we determine that the actor did not perform the book to the best of their ability.

Why aren't CTP masters ready for CD Duplication?

CTP titles are delivered in a format that will be accepted by Audible and every other digital distribution platform in the world. But CDs require special formatting, such as breaking the CDs, which is the process of dividing the book into equal parts that each fit onto a CD. Also, most CD duplicators require DDP submission, which is not included in the CTP production price. In the future we may offer this as an additional service.

Can I sell my CTP produced title on Audible?

Yes. You can upload any audiobook that you produce that passes Audibleʼs quality standards.

Do CTP produced titles pass Audibleʼs quality standards?

Yes. We exceed them. We upload hundreds of titles a year to audible for our big publishing clients, so we know the process well.
